Egyptian defender Ali Gabr

West Brom have signed Egyptian centre-back Ali Gabr on loan from Zamalek until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 29-year-old will link up with compatriot Ahmed Hegazi in the Baggies defence.

West Brom have an option to make the transfer permanent after agreeing a fee with his parent club.

“I’m here to help the team and do my job. I’m very happy and excited to be here,” Gabr told

Technical director Nick Hammond said the club had been tracking Gabr since the African Nations Cup at the start of 2017.

“The structure is the same as for Ahmed – it’s a well-structured deal for the club,” he added.

“Ali is strong, dominant in the air and he’s got good pace as well. This is a great opportunity for him and we’re delighted to have him here.”
