Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has signed a new contract, the Premier League club have announced.

The deal runs until 2020 with an option to extend it for one more year.

The Portuguese, who was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor in the summer of 2016, won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season at the helm.

“I am really honoured and proud to be Manchester United manager,” said Mourinho. 

“I would like to say a big thank you to the owners and to Ed Woodward for the recognition of my hard work and dedication.

“I am delighted they feel and trust that I am the right manager for this great club for the foreseeable future.”
